The Florida Street Blowhards Traditional Jazz Band sprang from the brow of New Orleans musical great Allen Toussaint on the day of his death. Bandleader Sam Irwin, a product of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Pride of Acadiana Band, has assembled a mix of older and younger musicians who are re-discovering the world of Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Joe “King” Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. After months of rehearsal, the Florida Street Blowhards are ready to perform. The Blowhards believe that “practice, practice, practice” is the only way to get to Carnegie Hall. Enjoy Egyptian Fantasy from Allen Toussaint’s The Bright Mississippi. It’s the tune that inspired the Blowhards.
